Pathogen Inactivation in Practice: INTERCEPT Platelets and Plasma for Support of Routine and Special Care Patients

Platelets and plasma treated with the INTERCEPT Blood System are approved for all indications of conventional platelets and plasma, and hundreds of thousands of units have been transfused throughout Europe. This symposium examined important parameters of clinical performance, results from a recent INTERCEPT observational cohort study in Switzerland, and the experience of EFS Alsace in supporting a region of 2 million inhabitants exclusively using INTERCEPT-treated platelets and plasma for several years. Particular attention was focused on the French experience with liver transplant patients, a population with profound haemostatic instability requiring extensive transfusion support with both platelets and plasma.

Speakers:

  • CHAIR: Dr Matilde Santos, Head Blood Component Production - IPS Lisbon, Portugal
  • Dr. Miguel Lozano, Head of Hemotherapy - Hospital Clinic Barcelona, Spain
  • Dr. Andreas Buser, Director – BSD SRK Basel, Switzerland
  • Dr. Daniel Kientz, Section Head of Blood Products Delivery – University of Strasbourg, France
