Collection and Processing: Range Requirements

The INTERCEPT Blood System has been validated for use with platelets and plasma meeting specific pre-treatment criteria.

Improved economics: one INTERCEPT kit can produce two platelet doses
The ability to use platelet collections with counts as high as 7.0 x 1011 allows flexibility to produce two therapeutic units of INTERCEPT Platelets from a single treatment, depending on local guidelines.

Processing Range Requirements for Platelets

Small Volume Large Volume
Plasma 32 – 47% 32 – 47%
Plt Count 2.5-6.0x1011 2.5-7.0x1011
Volume 255-325 mL 300-390 mL
RBC <4x106/mL <4x106/mL
CAD time 4–16 hrs 6-16 hrs
Type of collection Apheresis or Buffy Coat Apheresis or Buffy Coat

INTERCEPT Plasma: up to 3 transfusion units from a single treatment
Large treatment volume allows production of either 2 or 3 transfusion units from each INTERCEPT Plasma kit.

Processing Range Requirements for Plasma

Plasma input volume 385-650 mL
RBC <4x106/mL
CAD time ~20 min
Transfusion units/treatment 2 or 3 (user option)
Transfusion unit volume ~200 – 300 mL
Type of collection Apheresis or Whole Blood*
* Use of whole blood plasma typically requires pooling of two or three individual plasma units to meet plasma input volume range for treatment.
